Hand Embellishment for Textiles with Maggie Vanderweit 
Sunday July 8th 10-4pm
$120 + HST


Add another layer of rich detail to your textile art by learning how to create beautiful, contemporary, free-style hand stitching and bead work. Using a wide range of decorative threads and yarns, students will begin by experimenting with new ways of applying strikingly effective embroidery stitches.

Students will also be introduced to the fascinating world of beads and learn how to create original designs with bead embroidery. Open to all skill levels.

Maggie Vanderweit’s work is displayed and sold in galleries, shops, and textile museums, and in international textile art shows, like Houston, Chicago, Birmingham, England and Johannesburg. Her new book “Stone Threads” was released to great acclaim in June 2016 and she is in many publications.

Maggie has been operating her business Stone Threads Fibre Art since 2000. She creates original contemporary art with hand-painted and rust and botanical dyed fabrics, silk fusion, felt, hand embroidery, beading, collage and intricately machine quilted surfaces. Maggie presents a variety of lectures, retreats and workshops for guilds, the Haliburton School of Art, quilt stores, the CQA/ACC and Creativ Festival.

She is a Juried Art Member of SAQA, a professional member of CQA and belongs to the SDA and Connections Fibre Artists. Recent awards at the CQA/ACC National Juried Show include the 2013 Award for Excellence in Innovation, and the 2014 First Prize for Original Design in Non-Representational Wall Quilts. She also won Grand Prize at Threadworks 2.
